Here we go again!

Last month the second novel in the Ancient Illumination novel went live and now I am prepping for my second Comic con appearance here in Baltimore MD at the convention center downtown. I have been pretty busy so this is just a quick blog to let everyone know what I have been and what I will be up to. So on September 28th thru the 30th I’ll be in Baltimore at table A219. I did well last year and returning with more than one book should bode well for another great showing. Before the close of the year I will be hard at work on the third novel and mapping out the outline for the first of my fantasy series. At the end of next month I will be at the VA Comic con in Richmond Virginia at the Speedway on October 27th and 28th. Should be another fun event with lots of comic book and scifi fans dressed up as their favorite fictional characters from a variety of Geekdoms! The last time I was able to participate was in 2015 I believe at the Tidewater Comic con in Va Beach. Towards the middle of the month I will be taking another voice acting class with Melissa Leebaert if I can get in. Why? Because I am also in the process of recording the audio books to put them up on audible and iTunes so that people who don’t have time to read my stories can at least listen to them on the way to and from work. I have confidence in my voice but want to make sure...

Ancient Illumination makes an Appearance at the Baltimore Comic Con!

I must admit I was a bit nervous coming into an event like this as a vendor for the first time not knowing how a literary author would do at a convention that primarily is about comic books and other visual forms of media. I had no prints, comic books, graphic novels or posters of well known characters to offer. I had a few placards made showing visual representations of a few of my characters and a banner behind me depicting one of the more prominent figures I had created along with one of my ships. These worked great as they gave a visual for people to look at and opened the door for me to engage them if they seemed relatively interested then I could tell them about the characters and my story. For a first experience it could not have gone much better than it did. There are a few reasons I think that helped. The visuals I already mentioned, I had a plan before going in, I actively engaged people as they walked by, and finally I was consistent.                       I think it also helped that my table was relatively nicely presented and organized (I had help with that). It was not cluttered and there were a few things that caught peoples eye as they passed. It just so happens that I am a large person and that helped catch some folks attention. As my size 6’9″ 350 lbs is something I cannot...

Is less more when it comes to certain characters?

Everyone was in an uproar when Vader wrecked shop at the end of Rogue One myself included! I reviewed the film and left thinking what an awesome movie featuring just Darth Vader after order 66 would make. Two hours of Jedi hunting mayhem sounds like a good thing to me. After posting my review  I looked at other reviews online and most people were excited about the small doses of Vader we’ve been given but ultimately felt a feature film would be a disservice to both fans and the character. That surprised me. Then I thought of one of my own characters Malice who is used sparingly throughout my book, and it is meant to add some punch to the story but he’s definitely not featured. When he enters a scene it adds more weight to it which would not have the same effect if readers are used to seeing him all the time. Another character similarly used in the Star Wars universe is Darth Maul. Side note there is a novel featuring him which is no longer canon called Darth Maul Shadowhunter which I loved, but for the most part I am talking about the use of that character in Phantom Menace which I know many fans hated because of Jar Jar. Boba Fett would be another great example and he is rumored to be getting feature film as well.             Fett has I believe one speaking line in the original trilogy and those who unashamedly read most of the EU before it was relegated...
